Aurora’s 25th Birthday

In 1988, a community of families, faculty and staff who were dedicated to progressive education founded Aurora School. Together, under the leadership of Oakland educator, Carol Smith they realized their vision of multi-graded classes, hands-on, developmentally appropriate learning, and a commitment to academic and social/emotional learning. 25 years ago, Aurora began in Carol Smith’s living room with 20 students spanning grades K–3. Twenty-five years later, Aurora has grown to 129 students in six beautiful classrooms. What has stayed the same is that every day in every classroom Aurora staff and students work together to continue Carol Smith’s vision. Today, we remain as true to the mission of Aurora School as those founders were 25 years ago. Come help us celebrate our birthday.
