Enrichment Classes – Fall 2013

Enrichment Class Schedule – Fall 2013

Woodshop

Instructor: Ansel Schmidt

Here in the woodshop we let the students take the lead, designing and building individual or group projects ranging from simple to complex: the results are often unique and always empowering. We teach safe techniques of basic woodworking and let our students’ imaginations soar! It’s fun, challenging, and inspiring. Students may only sign up for one day each week unless maximum enrollment is not met.

Circus Moves / Skilly Circus

Instructor: Cynthia Rauschert

Skilly Circus – Grades K/1
Balancing, bouncing, tossing, tumbling, spinning, smiling, jumping, juggling, and lots of clowning around! Come wiggle and giggle your school-day energy out in this active class that encourages cooperation over competition. K/1s build fine and gross motor skills and gain body-awareness and cooperation skills in a high energy, inclusive environment with tumbling, object manipulation, active games, and skits.

Taste Adventures, Part III: Fall Flavors

Instructor: Harriet Trezevant, Aurora Parent & Substitute Teacher

Calling all new and returning adventure seekers, flavorologists, picky eaters, super tasters and budding chefs! Join us for an autumnal taste sensation; an investigation of ingredients you love, love to hate, and have yet to meet. Pumpkin juice, anyone? How about some spooky “cheesensteins” in time for Halloween? Everyone will receive a container to bring home treats to share, as well as a surprise on the last day of class. Each meeting will involve a taste adventure as well as hands-on cooking time. Gluten-free options will always be available. Let the adventure begin! (Note: Please don’t wear your fanciest duds to this class. Better yet, bring an apron or smock; this class can be messy!)

Aurora Chorus for 2nd – 5th grade ONLY

Instructor: Eve Decker, Aurora’s Music Specialist

Kids will learn a repertoire of songs from different traditions designed to feature harmonies, rounds, and small group singing. Guaranteed fun and learning. We will showcase what we have learned at the Tuesday morning assembly on December 17th. If you like singing this is the place for you 🙂

Holiday Gift Making

Instructor: Linda Lemon

In this Linda Lemon class we will make gifts in a variety of different media, including paper-making, and crafts. In December, students will bring home a bag of beautiful gifts they have made & wrapped themselves. Our final session will be dedicated to “goodie-making”, including decorating Gingerbread cookies. Our projects will include: Soaps, Candles, Marbled paper gift boxes, Cooked tie-dye pillows, Thanksgiving Wreaths, and more as time permits!
