Volunteer Opportunities

Parents and families at Aurora School are valued and strongly encouraged to be involved in all aspects of the school from the classroom to special events, continuing education and fund raising. As families and teachers we are all stewards of every child, honoring variations in individual development and learning styles. We are at once guiding our children and simultaneously discovering with them the joy and possibilities that lie before us. This Aurora tradition serves to build and sustain our community, and is an integral part of the Aurora experience.

Student Advocates

Parent involvement is a hallmark of Aurora School. International research has shown children do better academically and socially in schools where parent involvement is high. We know through experience that inviting parents and other adults to be involved in all areas of the school increases the richness of learning opportunities for everyone. In addition, the closer a parent or guardian gets to the workings of the classroom the better his or her understanding of the learning process. Parents see how learning happens. They become advocates and allies for teachers and are better able to support their child’s learning outside the school.

How You Can Help

There are many ways parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and special friends participate. Among them are volunteering in the classroom, opening car doors for morning drop-off, joining one of several very active committees, fund raising, and serving on the Board. Parents have the opportunity to meaningfully engage in every aspect of our school program. Read more about our Volunteer Requirements and System.

Volunteer Time Commitment

Each year Aurora families are required to volunteer a minimum of 30 hours of their time to the school (15 hours for single parents or two-household families). A minimum of 15 hours must be dedicated to Fundraising, Admissions and Marketing (FAM) and the remaining 15 to School Service (SS). For single parents or two-household families, 7.5 hours must be dedicated to FAM hours and 7.5 hours to School Service hours. All volunteer opportunities are tracked through Aurora’s i-Volunteer website and we recommend that you frequently check back to find new and fun opportunities! If you prefer, you may buy out of your required commitment at a cost of $25 per hour. Please contact Erina Atkins-Hadad in our Business Office to arrange payment.

Current families can sign up to volunteer on the Aurora School i-Volunteer website.
