March 13, 2020

Dear Aurora Families,

To educate our students, we must first keep them safe. Most, if not all, local school districts and independent schools are suspending in-person classes due to public health concerns over the Coronavirus (COVID-10). In light of its potential widespread transmission in the Bay Area, the Board of Trustees and I have decided, likewise, to adopt remote learning sooner rather than later.

Beginning Monday, March 16, Aurora students will learn remotely through a combination of learning packets teachers are sending home today and online learning. Please read your child’s teachers’ newsletters for details. We will continue to teach remotely through March 27. While Aurora’s curriculum is best delivered in-person, teachers will do their best to foster developmentally appropriate, meaningful learning. If your child is not on campus today, and your teacher has indicated a packet was sent home today, your child’s packet will be left on the front porch of the school for you to pick up.

Our Spring Break (originally scheduled for the week of April 13) will now take place the week of March 30. Our current plan is to resume full operations the week of April 6. Note that

  • Our online auction has been postponed.
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences will still take place April 9 – 10.
  • There will be no Spring Break Camp at Aurora.

Travel
Should your family decide to travel by plane, train, or another form of public transportation anytime after March 23, please let me know. In addition, please be aware that you may have to self-quarantine for 14 days when we are supposed to return to Aurora the week of April 6.

Communication
All Aurora staff will be available via email over the next two weeks during regular school hours 8am – 4pm. Feel free to reach out. Teachers will be communicating assignments via email, so please be on the lookout.

Thank you again for your patience and partnership during these challenging times. I hope you all remain healthy, and I look forward to seeing you on Monday, April 6.

With care,

Abbie Koss
Head of School
